Child Safe Online Training for Aikido Victoria

Aikido Victoria is a Child Safe volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation.

The Child Safe Standards in Victoria were significantly updated in July 2022. These standards are part of Victorian state law, and there are significant fines for non-compliance. Ensuring our members have completed this training is mandatory for our compliance requirements.

We are taking a cautious and comprehensive approach to training, as children and young people can train at any Victorian dojo, (not just childrens classes) and participate in any TTC and Aikido Victoria Special Events. In addition, they can turn up at any time in our dojos to observe and hopefully start training with us.

FAQs

Aikido Victoria is compliant with Child Safe Standards in Victoria. The standards were significantly updated in July 2022. It is the law and there are significant fines for non-compliance.

These training modules form part of Aikido Victoria’s commitment to ensuring that all people in the Aikido Victoria community are informed, and involved in promoting Child Safety and wellbeing. Taking part in ongoing training and education provided by Aikido Victoria is a part of the Code of Conduct signed by all members.

In this way, we are offering instructors, assistant instructors and adult students with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep students under the age of 18 safe through ongoing education and training.

These learning modules support the statements and commitments made in the Code of Conduct.

They provide additional information and context about how we can keep children and young people in our Aikido community safe. The knowledge checks provide an opportunity for you to practice this knowledge so you can be more confident about applying it if necessary.

Our Childrens Instructors and Assistant Instructors are the people in our organisation that are most likely to be involved with children and young people aged 18 and under in children’s classes.

Module 3 covers new items in addition to what have already been covered for all instructors from Module 1 and Module 2. This focuses on what is most relevant to children’s instructors and assistant children’s instructors.

You are also required to do the other two modules as well. It should take about 45 minutes to complete all three, including the assessments. While you need to complete each individual module in one sitting, you can do each one at a different time.

No, you can do the modules in any order.

However, you must complete each individual module in one sitting, as there is no option to save and continue once you have started. We recommend leaving enough time to complete them. If you don’t complete the module in one sitting, you will have to start from the beginning again.

In each module, you will see instructions on how to submit your completion record after you pass the knowledge check.

You must get 100% of the questions right to pass, and you have unlimited attempts to do this.

  1. After you score 100% in the knowledge check, you will see a results pop up window.
  2. Click the download button on the popup and save the PDF file somewhere convenient. Note that the PDF file contains the name of the module that you have just passed, as well as the date and time. This is needed to fulfil our record keeping compliance requirement, so please ensure you have saved the file before closing the pop up window.
  3. When you close the pop up window, you will see a link to a form. Please follow that link to submit your completion record to Aikido Victoria. You will not have counted as completing the module until we have received this via the form. Emailing the results will not be accepted.

Your record of completion is stored with Aikido Victoria. This may be viewed if we are audited. We also use these records to follow up with people who are required to complete the training to ensure they have.

The initial rollout of this training is May 2025, targeting completion by the beginning of Term 3 on July 21st.

If you are an instructor who has not submitted your completion results for the required modules by then, you will be reminded.

People who become instructors after the initial rollout are asked to complete it within a month. You will get an individual reminder as well.

As this is a compliance requirement to the State laws on Child Safe Standards, please take these due dates seriously.

All current students should do Module One.

If you are a dan grade (black belt) or first kyu, it is recommended but not required for you to do Module Two as well.

You are not required to do these eLearning modules, but you are welcome to view them if you wish.

Please review the Child Safe resources for parents, carers and guardians on our website.

Of course! These modules are free to access, and we encourage your curiousity.

Unless you have been specifically asked to do so, you do not need to send your completion results to us.
