Child safety legislation in the State of Victoria has been highlighted in the news recently. Organisations such as Aikido Victoria are under more scrutiny to show that they are following their own processes.
An email went out to all members highlighting the closure of a gymnastics organisation due to this failure on their part. We do not want this happening to our organisation.
You can view all of our Child Safety Standards on our website.
What this means for Summer School
We continue to require all trainees and spectators to sign the Safeguarding Children and Young People Code of Conduct as a condition of entry.
What do I need to do?
1. Sign the Code of Conduct
If you have signed the Code of Conduct before (including at the 2025 Summer School), you do not need to sign it again.
The rego desk team can assist if you don’t have access to the internet, but you will not be allowed in the dojo if you have not signed it first.
2. Understand and follow the “Never Alone Rule”
Refer to the Aikido Victoria Child Safe Policy if you don’t know what this means.
3. Respect the tatami (mat)
A specific area of the mat will be designated for under 18s and people who do not wish to be in photographs.
Please respect this zoning and try not to throw yourself or your ukes into it.
4. Respect the Photography Rules
Personal photos outside of training times are permitted but please respect the “no photos/under 18s” zone at all times. Do not take photos during training unless specifically permitted to.
Violation of this rule could result in a Child Safe incident being reported.
If you’d like photos taken of your group during training, please find one of the official photographers, and we will do our best to accommodate. Please remember that we are all volunteers and want to train as well.
Refer to our Photography and Digital Media policy for more details.
